Privacy Policy
Hooley helps friends plan meetups. This page explains what we collect and why.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, and your first name, last name and a display name you choose. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
- Age confirmation and agreements: that you confirmed you meet the minimum age, and when you accepted these terms.
- What you add to the app: groups you create or join, meetups, suggested times and places, votes, RSVPs, statuses, what you're bringing, announcements and reactions.
- Usage stats: anonymous counts of how the app is used (for example, app opens, screens viewed, meetups created, RSVPs and notifications opened), collected with Google Analytics for Firebase along with basic device information such as the device model, operating system and app version. These never include your messages, names, places or email address. You can turn this off in the app (Settings → Share usage stats).
- Crash reports: if the app crashes, a technical report (what went wrong in the code, the device model and app version) is sent with Firebase Crashlytics so we can fix it. It doesn't include your messages, names or places. The same setting turns this off.
- People who answer through an RSVP link (without the app): the name they type, their answer, answers to any questions the organizer asked, and, only if they choose, an email address for updates about that one meetup. We send one confirmation email first, and no updates until the address is confirmed.
- Your phone's calendar (only if you use "Check my calendar"): the app reads the busy times on your phone to show which proposed times you're free for, or to tick free days. This happens on your phone only: your calendar events are never uploaded or shared. Only the votes or free days you then save are shared with your group, as usual.
- Food needs (optional): if you add them in your profile, your diet and allergy needs (for example vegetarian or a nut allergy) and a short note. These can include allergy or health-related information. They're shared with the members of your groups so hosts can plan food, and removed from a group when you leave it or delete your account. Remove them any time in Edit profile.
- Invites: if you join a group through someone's invite link (or say who invited you), we note who invited you, once, to give the group its invite reward.
- Safety information: people you've blocked (visible only to you) and reports you send about other users or announcements.
Who can see what
- Other members of your groups see your display name and what you add to those groups.
- If you add food needs, the members of your groups can see them. On a meetup, everyone sees counts (like "2 vegetarian") and the hosts see who has which need.
- Your email address and last name are private and are not shown to other members.
- An email address given on an RSVP link is never shown to the organizer or the group. It's used only to send updates about that meetup (time or place changes, a reminder the day before, a spot opening up, or a cancellation) and is deleted when the meetup is deleted.
How we use it
To run the app, keep accounts secure, prevent abuse, review reports of abuse, and (with usage stats) understand which features are used so we can improve them. We do not sell your personal information.
Where it's stored
Data is stored with Google Firebase (Google Cloud).
Weather forecasts: to show the forecast for a meetup, our server sends the approximate location of the meetup's place (the centre of an area about 25 km wide) to Apple's weather service (Apple Weather), or to Open-Meteo. No personal information is sent, and your phone doesn't contact these services directly.
Your choices
- Edit your profile in the app at any time.
- Turn off usage stats any time in Settings → Share usage stats.
- Stop RSVP email updates with the "Stop these emails" link in any of them.
- Block people so you don't see their announcements. They aren't told.
- Delete your account any time in the app (Edit profile → Delete account). This deletes your profile, removes you from your groups, and deletes groups you own. See how to delete your account.
- Contact us at support@gethooley.com with any privacy question.
Children
Hooley is not for children under 13 (or the minimum age where they live).
